The safety of our associates is a top priority for Zurn Elkay Water Solutions. We continually improve our safety program to protect our associates and to work toward our vision of zero recordable injuries in the workplace.
By engaging associates and visitors on safety best practices through ongoing training and proactive programs, we reduced our Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) by 62% from fiscal year 2017 through calendar year 2021 at Zurn facilities. In 2021, our TRIR was 0.96, compared to the industry average of 3.30.
Our Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) decreased by more than 80% from fiscal year 2017 through calendar year 2021 at Zurn facilities. In 2021, our LTIR was 0.30 compared to the industry average of 0.90.
Our vision is zero recordable injuries.
As we keep looking for opportunities to improve safety in our facilities, here are a few examples from 2021:
A Zurn Business System Kaizen event at our Bensenville, Illinois, Service Center focused on reducing process hazards and improving ergonomics. Previously, associates would manually lift, maneuver and assemble trench drains. Thanks to the Kaizen event, a new process modified the material flow and incorporated lift-assist devices to reduce manual lifting.
A project at our Franklin Park, Illinois, facility involved the replacement and improvement of several production machines. The new machines include safer technology and better guarding technologies to protect associates.
